Iranian Tissue Bank in Collaboration with Shiraz Transplantation Research Center

TUMS-ITB News: Following the meeting held in the Office of the International Journal of Organ Transplantation Medicine in Shiraz on January 10, 2013 for the joint publication of tissue-related subjects, both centers have moved closer for joint collaboration since then. altWhen the officials of the Iranian Tissue Bank, Procurement and Research Center met (ITB), affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), met with their counterparts in the Office of the International Journal of Organ Transplantation Medicine (IJOTM), affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) in Shiraz on January 10, 2013, the two leading Iranian transplantation centers agreed to share their experiences and materialize the objectives of the Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation (MESOT) for joint publication of research material and manuscripts related to tissue harvesting and banking. In fact, the IJOTM, Editor-in-Chief: Professor Seyed Ali Malek-Hosseini, will have a section and a section editor, Professor Mitra Mahdavi-Mazdeh, for addressing tissue related subjects. The meeting was followed by a field visit to the construction site of the hospital and organ transplantation center of Shiraz that is a great extension the current facility. Dr. Malek-Hossieni has been marketing for the idea and pushing for the construction of the whole project that has been welcome by benefactors and non-governmental organizations. Dr. Mahdavi-Mazdeh is currently the Head of ITB and has been elected as the head of MESOT’s Tissue Committee since the conclusion of its Congress held in Emirates in December 2012.
